The night in gem tones

I had fun driving through the freezing rain this morning while the turnpike flashed insane speed limits of 45 and 35 mph in the early dawn.

Went to a fairly quiet meeting at Abington Friends, then home and lunch. Got bored and bugged a friend to come enjoy the sudden solstice sunshine with me:

The sky pulled back her
cloudy shawl, revealing
astonishing azure.

- composed while picking up [info]tscheese for a walk, grocery trip and general non-stir crazy time in her apartment.

Spaghetti squash with spaghetti sauce + broccoli + fruit cake + fresca & cointreau + Cowboy Bebop = yummy fun.

Inspiration . . .

The first is about a week old, the second about 3 hours.

An octopus dawn
mixing coral tentacles
with periwinkle.

Pink umbrella on
a sun-drenched day; a son's smile
beaming at father's.

Good weekend.

It was a good weekend. Went to four plays (two were one-acts on the same ticket), two of which were student-written. Mind you, these students are third-year MFA students, but students nonetheless. Excellent plays all around. If you hear of a Lia Romero or Demetra Kareman play, you will not be disappointed to see it.

On Sunday, on a whim I decided to try out Google's new patent search. And sure enough, there were my great-grandfather's patents on reclining chairs. It's sad...my parents used to have one of these, but it was destroyed along with a lot of our other treasured possessions when our house fell apart.

Moving on, I had a good time spent at Meeting for Worship, a wonderful gentleman named Sandy Shevack came to speak to us about the work he is doing to help youth in Passaic, NJ.

I'll leave y'all with a haiku I spent the first half of meeting composing:

Sudden as fireworks,
the Forsythia bushes
celebrating spring.
